I am getting to old for this
I am getting to old for this. There was a time I could watch skating
all day and type up my notes all night. I was younger then. I also
didn’t have a two year old to chase. That may have something to do with
it. Anyway here are my notes from yesterday’s competition.
Senior Lady’s Short Program
- Cohen Duncan (St. Mortiz ISC)
- This girl has the longest legs since
Nicole Bobek. And she extends them well, with pointed toe so her spirals
and camel spins are just gorgeous. She also skated really well. Had
really god speed going in and coming out of the double axel. Steps into
a triple sal was fine she had an extra turn coming in between the jumps
in a triple flip/double toe combination.
- Sydne Vogel (Alaska Association of FS)
- Wow, a name I thought I would
never see again. She was World Junior Champion, but she never could get
out of Tara Lipinski’s shadow. Now she is trying to make a come back
from a serious of injuries that took her out of the sport. I wish her
very well, but last night was not a good start. She popped the lutz and
only did a double jump out of footwork. Her double axel was fine. She is
still a very fast skaters. She has an excellent camel spin and did a
nice spread eagle in her circular spiral sequence.
- Mindy Tseng (SC of Oregon)
- She wore a really pretty white off the
shoulder dress. Unfortunately she did not skate well. She fell in the
combination and the jumps out of steps. Double axel was fine, she had a
pretty camel spin.
- Lisa Skavdahl (Portland ISC)
- She wore pink and skated to the Pink
Panther. Double lutz/double toe and a double loop out of steps. She fell
on the double axel.
- Amber Corwin (All Year FSC)
- Oh she had on the most beautiful deep,
red velvet dress, a simple tank style that suited her so well. She did
the triple toe/triple toe combination, with great height on the first
jump and a hand down on the second. She fell on the triple lutz out of
steps and landed the double axel fine. Did a flying sit spin and had
these cool leaps in her circular footwork. As always excellent
presentation and expression.
- Kimberly Luzzi
- Her name isn’t in the program so if I spell it wrong
I am sorry. She popped the axel and the combination. Did some one footed
footwork that was nice and a catch foot spiral. She did only a double
out of steps.
- Stephanie Ewing (Santa Rosa FSC)
- Started out with a very nice
spread eagle. Two footed the double axel, landed a sal/toe combination
on which I couldn’t count the rotations. Double loop out of steps.
- Heidi Pakkala (Braemar City of Lakes FSC)
- A smooth skater with good
flow. Triple lutz/double toe with extra steps between lutz and toe and
good height on the lutz. Double axel was fine but only a double out of
steps. Pretty layback with her arms held in a circular position. Skated
to Time To Say Goodbye and wore a very pretty yellow dress.
- Michelle Lencek
- Again not in the program so I am not sure how
her name is spelled. Turned out of the double axel, had pretty arm
positions in the layback. She fell on the jump out of steps and landed a
triple sal/double toe combination. She had a pretty camel spin with nice
speed.
- Sheileah Crisp
- Sheileah scratched, which is quite disappointing. I loved her
skating and haven’t seen her in a while. I was looking forward to seeing
her here.
- Joan Cristobal (Peninsula SC)
- The Ice Center of San Jose has a new
banner congratulation Joan on winning Junior Nationals, so as you can
imagine there was quite a lot of cheering when her name was announced.
She did some excellent, difficult steps into a triple sale, two footed
the triple/double combination. She had no speed going into the double
axel, so I knew she was going to fall. She has beautiful line and is oh
so very graceful.
- Amy Evidente (All Year FSC)
- Her combination was tilted in the air
and I knew she would fall, but her triple out of steps was fine and so
was her double axel. She had good speed in her spins.
Okay, okay, I am old, I am out of shape. I can’t stay in a rink the
way I used to back in my early thirties. After Amy we left and I didn’t
see the final flight. What can I say I am no Todd Eldredge, age has
slowed me down.
