It is one week until Marshall’s 2nd Birthday. He
has been to two Skate Americas, two Nationals and one World’s. And at
everyone of those competitions he has seen Michelle Kwan win the Lady’s
event. Maybe it was a terrible mistake not to get tickets to the
Olympics.
The numbers are their final standing. The top 6 moved up to the Final
Round.
Junior Lady’s Group A Free Skate
- [9th] Alice Ho (Peninsula SC )
- She landed a double loop/double loop, double lutz/double toe, stepped
out of a double axel. Then she did a camel/lay/sit spin combination. She
does a layback spin with her arms crossed over her chest. Something
about her footwork impressed me, but I can’t read what my notes say.
(Don’t you hate it when you can’t read your own handwriting?) She
successful landed tow other unidentified double jumps and a attempted a
split jump/double lutz combination but fell on the lutz; and fell on
another unidentified jump. She did a catch foot spiral and ended with a
camel spin.
- [8th] Laura Gardner (Portland ISC )
- She had a lovely deep arch in a fast layback spin. She landed an
unidentified double jump then stepped out of another, then landed double
lutz. Did a catch foot spiral then an ina baur into a two footed triple
salchow. She smiled straight at the judges during the spiral sequence.
Fell on a lutz then fell again, and did a split jump. She had smooth
stroking. Ended with a combination spin
camel/lay/change/camel/illusion.
- [10th] Katie Dowdy (St. Moritz ISC )
- In the program her name is spelled with a d, but in the results it is
spelled with at. So I am unsure as to the correct spelling. She wore
blue and skated to Rhapsody In Blue. She had pretty spin positions. Her
jumps didn’t get much height, I don’t have any detailed notes on
her.
- [7th] Katherine Specht (St. Moritz ISC )
- I think she skated to Masquerade Waltz, but my notes are a little
confusing here. Fast skater. Landed an unidentified double jump, then
fell on a double axel, landed a double lutz and a double axel/double toe
combination. She did a circular step sequence, had a pretty layback spin
and landed an unidentified double/double jump combination at the end of
the program.
- [11th] Leslie Vaeth (Peninsula SC )
- Oh my all I have written down for he is that she fell three times and
landed a triple sal. Poor kid. She skated to a Vanessa Mae medley.
- [6th] Jennifer Beck (All Year FSC )
- Skated to Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet. Landed a double flip (I
think)/double toe combination and a triple sal/double toe combination.
She did a single axel, a double toe, fell on a loop, fell again and then
fell on a triple sal. But kept on fighting and landed a double jump
after that.
- [1st] Felica Beck (Los Angeles FSC )
- Skated to Paint It Black. She was such a tiny thing when I
first saw her. She is so tall now! She is very fast, really sails across
the ice. Started the program with a very deep arch layback that she held
for quite a few rotations. Did a triple lutz/double toe combination,
double axel, then fell on another triple. Landed another triple lutz,
and a triple salchow. She did a very nice ina baur for almost the entire
length of the rink. Also did a Bielman spiral into a popped jump. Ended
with a Bielman spin. Now you know I hate to criticize the young skaties
but there is something wrong with her lutz that I just can’t leave out
cause it is so glaring. She has the worst lutz entrance I have ever
seen. She doesn’t just change edges but kind of serpentines, and wobbles
around. It looks like she is going to break her ankle. It is very
worrying.
- [3rd] Kara Glasson (Peninsula SC )
- She landed double axel, stepped out of a triple sal and stepped out
of another double jumps. She landed another double axel; a double/double
combination; a triple/double combination and fell on the loop. She had
pretty spin positions especially her camel spin. She was actually
2nd in the free skate.
- [5th] Jessica Aronstom (Denali IC )
- Landed a double axel/double loop combination; another double jump; a
double lutz/double toe; double sal and another double axel. She also did
a change edge spiral and had nice arms in the layback, but her spins
were slow.
- [2nd] Aurora Premont (Rim of the World FSC )
- Skated to West Side Story. She landed double lutz/double loop
and double axel/double loop combinations . She also did a solo double
axel, double lutz and unidentified double jump and a double/double
combination, that might have been a double/triple I couldn’t tell. She
had a fast sit spin.
- [4th] Susannah Hall (Lilac City FSC)
- Wow my notes on her are a jumble. I will try to make some sense of
it. She opened up the program with a very nice layback spin. I have down
big jumps, so I assume she had good height. She stepped out of one
double axel and landed another one. She did a double lutz/double toe
combination and a loop/loop combination. She did a Charlotte and a
spread eagle and had beautiful spiral positions. Stepped out of another
double.
