Day One

  • Novice Men Short
  • Novice Ladies Short There are no banners anywhere in Atlanta. At every Nationals I have ever been to, there were banners welcoming the skaters at the airport, and the downtown area was covered with banners announcing the event. Not here. There isn't even a banner at the headquarter's hotel.

    Novice Men Short

    Steven Elefante
Skated to a swing medley with a disco beat. Jump out of steps was fine. Did a flying sit spin. Landed a triple/double did extra turns coming out of the triple. Fell on the double axel. His combo spin wobbled a lot. He smiled a lot throughout the program.
    Daisuke Murakami
Skated to Sing, Sing, Sing. Landed a double axel with great flow going in and coming out of the jump. Landed a triple/double combo. Has nice stretch in his camel spin. Jump out of footwork was fine.
    Charlie White
Music was 13th Warrior. Landed a triple lutz/double toe combo. Jump out of steps was fine with much more difficult footwork than other boys had. Also had a difficult footwork sequence. Good ice coverage.
    Princeton Kwong
Music was Russian Sailor's Dance/Gilere. Landed a double axel and a triple/double combo. His double out of steps was fine. He is fast. Excellent circular footwork. Ended with a blur scratch spin.
    Douglas Razzano
Music from Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack. He tried a triple lutz/double toe, but landed the lutz almost down on his knees. Fast spins. Popped a jump. Ended with a blur scratch spin.
    Lenny Ranney
Skated to a medley of Summertime and Take the A Train. Started out the porogram with a nice series of three turns. Landed a triple/double combo. Did a spiral into a double axel and the jump out of steps was fine. His jumps came to a complete halt when he landed, but he did land them. I liked his style a lot.
    Brandon Mroz
Music from Cirque Du Soleil. Kid did a lot of acting out of circus moves, started out acting out tight-rope walking did a spread eagle while pretending to juggle. Landed a double axel a triple/double combo and jump out steps were fine.
    Daniel Elson
Music was Baba O'Reilly (that's what it says in the program, I don't know what it is either.) He had a very unusual style, not my cup of tea, but it was stylish not just skate jump. Landed a triple sal/double toe and unfortunately I don't have any othe rnotes.
    Peter Lindstrom
Music was called Everything. Landed a triple/double combo. Landed jump out of steps and a double axel. He really stretched out his legs going into a flying spin.
    Daniel Reed
Skated to West Side Story. Landed double axel and fell on a triple loop.
    William Brewster
Music was Napoli. Did a pop jump/double combo. Had good flow coming out of his double axel. Good height in his flying sit spin.
    Stephen Carriere
I am sorry all the notes I have for him is that he popped something. End of the event I probably was busy with Marshall and couldn't take notes.

    Novice Lady's Short

    Crystal Shum
Skated to the soundtrack from Cutting Edge, wore the traditional multi-color racing car outfit. She did a fast combo spin with pretty positions. Landed a triple/double combo. She was way tilted on her double axel and fell. She did a nice spiral where she changed her leg from in front to behind.
    Jessica Lee
Music was the Poem, Secret Garden. Very delicate and graceful skater with a beautiful smile throughout her program. She landed a double axel, a triple/double combo and jump out of steps. Ended with a beautiful layback spin. This was a lovely program, well presented. I thought she would win the short, but then many other ladies came out and were really good as well. So I have no idea how any of them ended up.
    Brittney Vise
Hernando's Hideaway. She fell out of the double axel. Como jump was fine. She had a big smile on her face throughout and nice arm movements.
    Cara Kinney
Overture to Crazy For You. Landed a triple/double combo. She landed double axel, jump out of steps was fine. She did a catch foot spiral and had some nice footwork in between spirals in her spiral sequence. Great presentation.
    Lindsey Wilson
Music was Born. Fell on a triple loop, double axel and jump out of steps was fine.
    Christine Zukowski
Music was Hernando's Hideaway. Landed triple/double combo and jump out of steps. Stepped out of the double axel.
    Danielle Shepard
Music was Montezuma. I fell in love with her during the warm up. She did spins with very unusual positions. She did a catch foot layback spin. She is fast. Landed a triple/double combo and double axel. She had the most complicated steps into her jump out of steps.
    Tenile Victorsen
Appalachian Music. Did a split jump into a spiral. Landed a double axel and a triple/double combo. Footwork sequence was fast. Jump out of steps was fine, she is very musical.
    Molly Oberstar
Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini. Charlotte spiral into an Ina Baur. Triple salchow/double toe combo. She did a back spiral/3turn/into a forward spiral, very nice. Cool spin position. Jump out of steps was fine.
    Juliana Cannarozzo
Time to Say Goodbye. She did a triple/double combo but fell out of the triple. Double axel and jump out of steps were fine. She has nice stretch in her spins.
    Katrina Hacker
Madame Butterfly. Landed a triple salchow/double loop combo. Landed a double axel. She has fast spins. She did a Kerrigan spiral.
    Megan Oster
