Day 7
Junior Lady's Free Skate
I was wielding both notebook and camera, so my notes are very
incomplete. And I was really enjoying the skating, or rooting for a
favorite so much that I my note taking suffered badly. So here is a very
incomplete report from a very good event.
- Melissa Telecky
- Music is Warsaw Conerto. I think she did two triple
while I had the camera in my hands but I am not sure. She did double
loop, and a triple jump that she bent over on the landing but I couldn't
tell if she put her hand on the ice or not. She landed a double jump a
double axel and a double lutz. She has a very pretty layback spin. Her
lutz is taken off from a very definite outside edge.
- Adelson
- She landed a double axel, a triple jump a triple salchow a double
lutz two other double jumps and a triple/double combo. Sorry that is all
I have for her.
- Katie Thordarson
- Music is Frida. Landed a double lutz/double toe, fell
on a triple jump, landed a double axel and a double loop. She fell on
the triple salchow and landed another double jump. She has a very pretty
inside edge spiral.
- Tammy Sutan
- Music is Butterfly Lovers. She skates with a lot of
energy and presentation. She started out her program with a very pretty
layback spin. She two footed a triple loop. Stepped out of a triple
salchow. Landed a double jump. Did an Ina Baur into a double axel she
stepped out of. Fell on triple jump and landed a double/double combo.
- Lauren Hennessy
- Graceful girl but she skated to Evita and she is not
haughty enough for that music. (Which probably means she is a nice kid.)
Landed a triple loop, a double axel, another double jump a triple
salchow/double toe combo, a double axel/double toe combo and fell on a
triple loop.
- Jessica Houston
- Music is Caravan and Istanbul. Good energy
in this girl. Landed a triple/double combo, a double axel/double toe.
She did a cool Ina Baur with nicely choreographed arm movements. She
landed a triple salchow, another triple jump, a double axel and another
double jump. She has a big smile. 7th in the free and overall.
- Michelle Boulos
- Music is The Hunchback of Notre Dame. She landed a
triple lutz, fell on another triple, fell on the loop jump and fell on a
double axel. She did a pretty camel spin in kind of a twist position.
She did walleys into a jump I could not identify. She did a great spiral
almost in a full circle. Ended with a blur scratch.
By the way what I call Walleys, I think are Walleys, but
that might be half loops or something. I am going to check with someone
who knows better than I.
- Erin Reed
- Music is Road to Perdition; Devil's Trill.
She has very pretty arms movements. She landed a triple/double combo,
fell out of a triple loop, landed a double jump and a double axel/double
toe combo. She fell on a triple salchow. Excellent footwork. Ended with
a doughnut spin. 4th in the free and overall.
- Shannell Noji
- Music is Titanic and Legends of the Fall.
Shannell is a lovely skater with great presentation, but well her jumps
didn't come to Atlanta with her. She landed a double axel/double toe a
triple jump and a double lutz. Then she popped something. She two footed
a triple salchow and singled the axel.
- Brianna Perry
- Cirque De Soleil. Landed a double lutz and a triple
salchow and a double axel. She has pretty Moves In the Field in her
program. Very pretty spiral. She did the things I think are walleys into
a double axe. I couldn't take very good notes on her so I missed writing
down a lot of her jumps. She was 3rd in the free and overall.
- Julian Burns
- Music is Spanish Rahapsody. I love Julian she is a
beautiful, expressive skater. She expresses pure joy in her skating. But
not today. She had all sorts of jump problems and I just stopped taking
notes. Go look her up in my Silicon Valley and Central Pacs reports to
read my raves about her. Everyone has to have a bad skate now and then
Julian, it is the way of the sport. You will do great next time. 6th in
the free and overall.
Okay not only did our top two skaters both go out and
skate GREAT, they both used music that I always want people to skate to,
but no one every does. Wouldn't it be great if Pines of
Rome became as overused as Malguena? Well thank you Katy and
Kimmie for bringing my music wishes to life.
- Katy Taylor
- Music is listed as An American Medley, it included
America the Beautiful and the soundtrack from
Patton. (Patton is wonderfully evocative
music, by the way which doesn't make you think of blood and guts at
all.) She is a very light and fast skater. Landed a triple jump and a
double axel, stepped out of the triple loop. Landed another triple
loop/double toe. She ended with a triple jump. A very lovely program.
2nd in the free and overall.
- Kimberly Meissner
- Music is Pines of Rome. Landed a triple jump and a
triple lutz. She is very fast, has great ice coverage. Landed a triple
salchow and a triple loop. She did a nice spiral. Landed a double axel
and a double lutz and popped one jump. Kept the speed and energy up
throughout the program. 1st in the free and overall..
Well, in all my years of going to Nationals I have never seen the
reigning Novice Lady's Champion come back and win Junior's. In fact in
all my years of going to Nationals I have never seen the Novice Lady's
Champion ever win anything ever again. Way to go Kimmie!
