2000 Pacific Coast Sectionals

Pacific Coast Sectionals Senior Ladies Free Skate

We managed to get some pictures of the Novice ladies and senior ladies today. We haven't had the chance to get them developed yet, so I don't know if any of them are any good, the lighting at the arena was not optimal. Check back after Christmas and if there are any good pictures we hopefully will have them up by then.

The rink was freezing. There was a mist rising up from the ice throughout the ladies free skate and as the night went on the mist got thicker. You could see the girls breath. I think that might have affected the skating.

Sasha Cohen
Red dress with sparkles, the one she wore at Keri Lotion Classic. Wow this girl has fabulous presentation, she stares right at the judges with amazing presence. She put her hands down on the triple lutz, landed a very clean triple flip, double axel very aggressive going into it, then another double axel that something went wrong with, but I forget. Then she landed triple toe, hand down on the triple loop, did another double axel, a triple/double combo. Amazing spins, very fast and well centered with incredible flexibility. Very well extended spirals she did the Charlotte spiral down the middle of the ice halfway through the program. She was skating to Mendelson according to her dad who I met and was very nice. Did I mention she has great line?

Marks generally in the 5.1 to 5.4 range

Cohen Duncan
She did a great job. She has very long legs and she uses them very well with pointed toe to give herself a very nice long line. Skated to Strictly Ballroom which wins the award for most overused music hear I must say. She landed double axle, a triple something, a triple sal stepped out of/double toe, doubled something, did another triple/double with a step in between and popped a Salchow. She has a gorgeous Camel spin with wonderful line.

Marks 5.1-5.3 technical 5.0-5.4 presentation

Kimberly Kilby
Wore a Blue vaguely French pheasant costume and skated to Les Miserables. Hand down on the triple lutz and loop, fell on another triple and did three clean triples. Had very good speed and power in her jumps. Good serpentine footwork sequence.
Susan Ng - 4th
Oh I am so glad she picked up to fourth. She skated beautifully. Susan has always been a good skater, but in the last year she has gotten so much better. She is more expressive and polished, she just floats across the ice. She wore a turquoise dress with a sheer white overdress, beautiful costume. Skated to some ballet music which included a Harlequin doll number, she did the cutest little doll moves in the program. She did four triples, she landed a triple sal, then later landed another triple sal and then the edge slipped out from under after she landed it. She did this beautiful layback spin, she held it for a long time and gracefully moved her hands down her back as the spin progressed. She had beautiful dance steps through the program and really interpreted the music well. I loved this program it was worth the price of admission. Oh and not only did Susan remember meeting me before she remember the stuffed animal I gave her at Nationals, what a sweetie.

4.8 - 5.1 technical; 4.9 - 5.3 presentation. Should have been higher because she really had great flow and speed.

Stephanie Chase-Bass
Midnight Blue Velvet costumes with rhinestones, classical program. Landed triple sal and triple loop. Fell on 2nd triple sal, fell on another loop. Landed 2 axel/double toe and another double axel. Went into her axels very aggressively, really jumped into them. Did a single axel/1/2 loop/1/2 loop/double toe series. Gorgeous spiral, lovely arms.

4.3 - 4.9 technical; 4.8 - 5.1 presentation.

Elizabeth O'Donnell
Fell on a triple sal, landed another triple sal/double toe and another triple/double combo and another solo triple jump. Popped something, landed a double axel/double toe, another double flip and double lutz. Again she skated with great speed and really covered the ice.

4.3 - 4.8 technical; 4.5 - 4.8 presentation

Christina Gordon
Wore a lavender dress. I saw her years ago at this very rink skating at the 96 National Novice competition. All I remember about her from then is a beautiful layback spin, and she still has a beautiful layback spin with a free leg postion that would make Dick Button swoon. Landed double loop, two other double jumps and a double/double combination, tried a double axel/double axel combination and fell on the second jump. Tried two triples and fell both times. She did a lovely spiral and held it nicely. She has very classic line and gorgeous positions.
MacKenzie Baltz
Wore a gray dress with silver sparkles skated to Swan Lake. Landed double axel, double lutz, triple sal, double axel/double toe, double loop/double loop. She fell on something and popped a lutz. Did a Russian split into a double jump.
J.J. Matthews
Black dress with sparkles and a red underskirt. Did a spiral into a triple jump, a double jump, double axel, double loop, double axel and double lutz. Also did a change edge spiral.
Kristen Bagby
Black dress with purple sparklys. Did that jump with her hands straight up over head, neat effect. Double sal, double/double, two double axels and a triple sal. The free leg on her layback would displease Dick Button.
Sarah Devereaux
Wore a black dress with sheer sleeves. Skated to Tocata and Fugue. Wow I really scribbled the notes for her, I am not sure I can make them all out. Looks like she landed a double axel, did a triple sal/double toe with extra steps between the jumps. Double footed some triple jump. Hand down on another triple. Camel into a no hand illusion, layback with hands behind back, nice effect. Did a Russian split into something that I scribbled.
Kristy Evans -
Dark purple dress with sparklys. Mess up some triple landed another triple, did some one legged footwork into a camel, very nice. Landed a double sal, another double sal, double jump, singled axel. Two footed a triple loop.
Alexandra Kaye
