17-Dec-99: Sr. Pairs Short

2000 Pacific Coast Sectionals

Senior Pairs Short Program

Only Three Pairs are here. Stieglers and Magarian Guzman are in the program but are not skating.

Trisha Hayes & Richard Gillam
Skated to Strictly Ballroom. Not much height in their split twist but it was completed. Side by side double jumps and only a double throw. Very slow pairs combo spin, slow and out of synch side by side spins. Very slow all around, but nice line. Marks were 4.2 - 4.5 technical and 4.3 - 4.5 presentation.
Natalie Vlandis & James Peterson
Gorgeous brown and greenish costumes, sort of pheasant style, some sort of Celtic music. Good speed and line in their lift, a throw triple well done. Side by side triple toes I think, she was a little shaky on the landing but held it. He used both his hands to pull her out of the death spiral. Oppegard trademark complicated circular steps sequence complete with dance holds. Very ioce. The spins had good synch but weren't very close together.

Whitney Gaynor & David Delago
Some sort of Tango number, they started out the program doing a tango down the center of the ice. He was wearing that ubiquitous toredore costume. They have improved a lot, faster and with better line. There twist just barely got up, but was completed. Throw triple and side by side triple sals landed well. Nice posistions in their combo spins. He fell out of the side by spins, stopped and then got back into synch with her, which I didn't think was possible. Still with that glaring error I don't think they should have been ahead of Natalie and Jim.
