Guys seriously there are OTHER epic movies. One of the most underused
scores of all time has to be The Magnificent Seven. I can't
listen to ANY Elmer Bernstein music without thinking it would be GREAT
skating music. One day someone is going to skate to The Ten
Commandments and blow everyone away. It could be you!
Unlike some other skatie fans I could mention I often find Jr. Men
tedious, but this event was great. These guys weren't just skating and
jumping. They put a lot of extra moves and little touches in their
programs that I thoroughly enjoyed. Everyone skated a complete program.
This was one of the best Junior Men events I have seen and one of the
top two events at this Golden West. Congrats and good work to all the
guys.
- John Lomazzi
- Music was one of those epic soundtracks that gets used a lot I
think Gladiator. Landed a triple lutz, a double axel and a
triple salchow that almost went into the wall. Fell on another triple
jump. Landed a double axel and fell on a triple jump. Had a wobbly
landing on a triple loop and landed a triple/double combo.
- Stanislav Samohin
- Music was a mish mash of different music, that had nothing in
common. He tried the triple axel, put his hand down on it. Landed a
triple and then fell out of another triple axel, tagging on the double
toe. Landed a triple jump and put his hand down on the triple lutz. He
landed a triple loop/double toe comb and fell on something, landed a
triple salchow.
- Christopher Caluza
- He did a triple lutz/triple combo I think the second jump was a
loop but I couldn't see the entrance. He landed a triple and a double
axel, a triple loop and a triple lutz. He landed a triple double combo
and a triple salchow and a double axel/double loop. He did this really
cool move in the straightine steps, it was a butterfly that looked like
an aerial cartwheel. Loved that!
- David Wang
- Landed a double axel and a triple jump. He is fast, really zooms
between the jumps. He landed a triple lutz/double toe, fell out of a
triple loop. He did a triple with a hop on the end that I think was
supposed to be a combo. He landed another triple lutz. He stepped out of
a triple and doubled a salchow. He did an excellent final spin, very
fast with a dramatic flourish at the end.
- Will Michael
- He landed a triple lutz, very fast going in and out of the jump. He
put his hand down on a touble jump and landed a double axel. He fell on
a triple, landed a double and then a jump I couldn't figure out. He
integrated his flying sit spin into the ending choreography of his
straightline footwork. Very effective.
- Lloyd Ting
- Landed a triple lutz, then fell twice. Landed a triple salchow. He
had a very good straightline footwork sequence that included a full turn
lunge and an illusion spin. He landed a double axel/double toe/double
loop combo and fell on a triple lutz and another jump. Ended with a
triple jump.
- Nam Nguyen
- From British Columbia. I've come up with a nickname for him:
"ShowNam". He skated to what Marshall assures me is the music from
The Karate Kid. He did all sorts of karate moves throughout
the program, playing with the judges and flirting with the audience. I
don't even like karate programs and I loved this. He is a natural born
performer. He also landed a triple sal/double toe, fell on a triple
jump, landed a triple lutz with I think two foot. Has a good sit spin,
fast and low. He landed a double axel/double toe, double loop. Fell on a
triple loop. Landed a double axel. Fast footwork filled with karate
moves. Landed another triple jump. A bundle of entertaining energy.
- Sean Rabbit
- He started out with a triple jump. Then he did this really cool
leap, landed a triple lutz and a triple loop or salchow, didn't see the
take off clearly enough to tell. He is wicked fast between jumps. He put
his hand down on I think a triple loop. Landed a triple salchow
straightin into a double axel. Landed a double axel/double toe. He did a
triple jump into his step sequence, he has good speed in his steps.
Landed a double axel. He was very dramatic and intense and interpreted
the music well. Off the ice he is sweet and mellow so he must be a
natural actor. 3rd overall
- Misha Ge
- Techno music and dance moves, like Stephanie Rosenthal's sensational
program. But Stephanie played it for fun, Misha played it very
dramatically. He stared with a triple/triple combo, a triple, and a
triple lutz and another triple jump. Good combo spin, fast with
interesting positions. He landed a triple lutz/double loop another
tripole jump and a double axel/double toe/double loop and another double
axel. Very dramatic, intricate footwork sequence with good speed. 1st overall
(Would love to see Stephanie and Misha do side by side
footwork passes.)
- Max Aaron
- He went into a lutz very fast but stepped out of it. Then zooming
again into a triple axel he fell out of. He landed a triple loop and
stepped out of another triple and then another won. It looked like he
just couldn't control his speed enough to check the jumps. He landed a
triple loop/double toe.
