2006 Nationals Jr. Lady's Short
Did I mention how cold it is here? Not outside, I mean inside the arena.
It is all we Nationals regulars can talk about. We have never been to an
arena that is this cold. Even with the big old slab of ice in the
center, we can usually find a comfortable temperature. But I have two
sweaters on and my coat, and am still freezing to death. No one can
believe how cold we are, we are sure we will all have pneumonia before
the week is out. Poor little skatey girls in those tiny dresses.
Usual jump disclosure, I can't always see take offs, or count
revolutions and I can't tell a toe loop from a flip.
The marks I am reporting were the ones announced at the end of the
program and are subject to "adjustment." I always check the protocols
later to see how my jump counts matched with the callers, usually I am
only off on a couple of jumps.
- Rachael Flatt
- Music is Nessum Dorma. She has a beautiful
layback spin. She landed a triple/double combination and a triple lutz.
She is very expressive. She landed a double axel and did split jump in
her footwork.. Nice arm movements in this program.

- Tenile Victorsen
- Music is Korean Elegy. She is very graceful
with lovely Moves In the Field. She landed a triple/double combination
and did an Ina Baur into a double axel. Beautiful layback spin. She did
a double out of steps and a 1 footed flying sit spin. She has a very
deep inside edge in her spiral sequence.

- Melissa Bulanhagui
- Music is House of Flying Daggers
Soundtrack. She did a very original, dramatic program. She was
innovative without being weird. It was a martial arts sort of program,
but more like dancing than like Stojko. She is fast and attacks the
jumps. She landed a triple lutz and held the landing edge; fell on
another triple. She did a good change edge spiral which actually went
from an edge to an edge, unlike most change edge spirals which go from
an edge to a flat. She landed the double axel.
Tech 24.89 PCS 21.60 Short Total 45.49
- Caroline Miller
- Music is Solo Cello Suite by Bach. She did
three turns into a loop/toe combination, but fell out of the loop. She
did a nice double axel, held the edge and was fast coming out of the
jump. She did a double "tano" lutz. She fell on a one footed flying sit
spin.
Tech 14.11 PCS 18.11 Short Total 31.22
- Becky Hughes
- She skated to the overture from Crazy For
You. This is an enjoyable program which Becky performs with
great expression. She did a triple/double combination with extra steps
between the two jumps. She fell on a one footed flying sit spin. She
held a change edge Bileman spiral for a long glide. She did twizzles
both ways in her footwork sequence. I thought her PCS were way too low.
Tech 20.35 PCS 19.22 Short total 38.57
- Caroline Zhang
- Music is O Mio Babbino Caro. She has a most
beautiful layback/Bielman spin. Unlike most of the young lady's doing
Bielmans Caroline actually gets the proper stretch the spin requires.
She did a back spiral into a double axel. She fell on a lutz. She did
steps including a lunge into a triple jump. She did a very extended
spiral into a forward Charlotte, the kind of move that makes you say
"wow."
I didn't get her scores.
- Molly Oberstar
- Music is Gabriel's Oboe. She has lovely
long lines, she really stretches and points her toe. She landed a double
axel and a double jump. She has a beautiful stretched camel spin. She
landed a triple/double combination. She did a one footed flying sit
spin. She is a very elegant smile and she has a pretty smile.
Tech 23.71 PCS 20.48 Short total 44.19
- Megan Hyatt
- Music is Canvas. She did an Ina Baur into
a double axel and held the edge of the axel. She did a triple lutz and
had some problem that I can't read what my notes say. She did a one
footed flying sit spin. She landed a triple salchow/double toe
combination near the end of the program. She has a couple of nice
musical dance bits in the program. I liked her arms in the beginning of
the layback spin, but of course instead of getting to hold that lovely
position she had to change positions to get the points in the
Speedskaters new system. (In case you haven't figured it out yet I have
gone from a COP agnostic to a COP hater.)
Short Total 44.21
- Katrina Hacker
- Music is Illumination by Secret Garden. She
did a one footed flying sit spin with very nice positions. She landed a
triple salchow/double loop combination and got a great grin on her face
after she landed the double axel. She did a double lutz and ended her
footwork with a pretty split jump.
Tech 23.30 PCS 20.05 Short Total 43.35
- Julianna Cannarozza
- Music is Harem. She fell on a lutz and
fell out of a triple loop. She did a one footed flying sit spin and has
a pretty layback spin. She landed a double axel, her spiral was fast.
She has a fast combination spin with nice positions.
Tech 19.56 PCS 20.37 Short total 39.93
- Ashley Wagner
- Music is the Henry V soundtrack (The music
Paul Wylie skated to in Albertville if you didn't know.) She landed a
triple lutz. She did a layback/Bileman spin. She landed the double axel
and a triple/double combination. She was one of the few who did a
serpentine footwork sequence. (It seems to me that just doing serpentine
rather than straightline should get you a higher level of difficulty
because you have to do footwork over a much greater area. But this is
Speedy's system not mine, so what do I know).
Short Total 45.85
- Jessica Houston
- Music is Passionata. She is also one of the
ones whose change edge spiral actually had two edges in it. She did a
triple/double combination but fell on a triple lutz. She did a one
footed flying sit spin and I have no idea what happened to her axel it
is not in my notes. (As my long time readers know toward the end of an
event my notes start getting sloppier.)
