2002 Senior Men Short

I am not going to report on the top six. You have seen them on TV and you don't need me to tell you how they skated.

Ryan Jahnke
Program was Stairway To Heaven, one of the few pop anthems that actually WORKS for skating. He did a triple lutz/triple loop combination, which was two footed. He did a triple axel out of steps which was very fast going in and coming out of. He has really good flow, he just seems to float on the ice. Seventh place.
Scott Smith
He did a quad salchow, fell out of a triple axel and did a triple I could not identify out of steps. He pumped his fists with glee when he landed the quad. Ninth place.
Ryan Bradley
He fell on the triple axel. He did triple lutz/triple toe, his triple out of steps was fine. He had his usual great presentation, playing with the audience, looking directly at the audience and motioning to them. He has fabulous extension in a series of butterflies into a flying camel, with great line. Eighth place.
Michael Sasaki
He did a double/double combination, a triple out of steps and a double axel. He had nice speed and a well centered sit spin. In face he is a real good spinner. Sixteenth place.
Sean Calvillo
He did a James Bond program. Look guys I don't know how to tell you this, but this is what sensible women think when they hear the James Bond music "swine, my name is sexist, misogynistic swine." (I am of course talking James Bond here not Sean.) He had a good opening sit spin. He did a double axel, fell on a lutz and did a flying sit spin. He made many gun motions with his fingers. Eighteenth place.
Parker Pennington
He did a double axel and fell on a lutz. Fourteenth in the short.
Matt Savoie
Well you saw his great short on tv. I just wanted to add that every year Matt gets better and better. He has so much improved his line, speed and overall presentation since I first saw him as a gawky kid win juniors back in 97. I have really become a big fan of Matt. Third in the short (ROBBED IN THE FREE.!!!!!)
Michael Villareal
He did a triple lutz and put his hands down. Very dramatic heavy music, which is actually quite typical of Michael. He fell on something and did a double axel. He looked very sad after his skate, poor kid. Well he has years to go. Seventeenth place.
Rohene Ward
I keep hearing raves about this boy, but I honestly don't get it at all. He must be a great practice skater but I have never been impressed by him. He fell on the triple axel, fell on the lutz and popped something else. He does have great spins. Fifteenth place.
Shepard Clark
WOW! Shep is back, that is so great. And why not, if he can qualify for Nationals then God Bless him. Sometimes it isn't about winning, it is just about love of the sport. Unfortunately he did not have a great short. He fell on the triple axel. Then he only did a double/double combination. He had a great flying sit spin. A spread eagle into a triple lutz, and almost fell on a gorgeous camel spin. Twelfth in the short.
Evan Lysacek
He landed a triple axel then a triple lutz/double toe combination. He fell at the begeinning of his footwork. Triple out of steps was fine. Tenth in the short.
Justin Dillon
Did a double axel and popped a lutz. Eleventh in the short.
