2001 Ladies Qualifying Group B

Well we tried taking Marshall to the morning session today for the first time, and it did not work at all well. He was pretty fussy this morning. As it was we could only stay for half the group so he can nap before Pairs. And I couldn't see all of the girls but here is what I did see.

Ukraine - Elena Liashenko
She skated very well. Started with a triple lutz/double toe, then landed two other triples, two footed the loop, landed triple sal and at least one double axel, and popped a second lutz. She had beautiful spins, especially her layback and camel, with lovely well extended positions.
France - Vanessa Gusmeroli
Wearing a gold outfit with leopard spots (I thought they were leaves -rmh), she has dumped Joan of Arc and is skating to Legends of the Fall, a much nicer program I think. I didn't get to take notes for her whole program she landed a triple lutz, and a triple lutz/double toe, another triple and doubled the loop. She landed some other triples I didn't get to take notes on. Ended the program with a great combination of spins, she did a cool sit spins with her arms extended then did a camel spin in the other direction and then did a camel spin in the first direction. Very nice, really got the crowd going with that move.
Russia - Victoria Volchkova
This girl has great spring in her jumps and fabulous height. She did a triple sal, with a step out/triple combination, landed a triple lutz, two other triples, doubled the loop, then did another triple/double combination and a double axel.
Great Britain - Zoe Jones
She really impressed me with her speed and her edges in the warm up. She fell on her opening triple then did a very well extended camel. Landed a double axel, a triple/single combination, two footed a triple. She did good circular footwork, in fact had nice connecting moves throughout her program. She had a nice straight back in her sit spin. She popped a jump, then fell out of her triple loop then did the double toe, did a triple/double combo with a couple of extra steps in between and two footed another triple.
Hungary - Tamara Dorofejev
Landed a triple sal, then popped a jump, Landed two other triples, popped another jump, landed a triple/double combination and a double axel. She skated to Malaguena, can we ban this music yet?!!? She did a series of catch foot spirals and then a catch foot lay, ended with an illusion spin.
The Netherlands - Karen Venhuizen
I saw her on the monitors while I was getting Marshall milk. I thought she landed four triples and fell on one.

I had to change Marshall while Irinia Slutskaia skated, but my friend Ann Jensen said she didn't land any triple/triples. Nevertheless I could tell by the loudness of her ovation, Slutie did well.

Canada - Jennifer Robinson
After the horror of last night Canadians needed something to cheer about and Jennifer really stepped up to the plate. She started out landing a triple lutz, then landed another triple, a triple/double with a couple of extra steps between the two jumps. She fell on one triple. Then she landed a triple lutz, a double axel and a triple sal/double toe. She ended with a combo spin climaxing in a blur scratch spin.
Israel - Darya Zuravicky
She is very graceful and had a beautiful layback. Successfully landed I think no jumps. But I enjoyed watching her skate anyway.
