SVO 2003 Day One - August 14, 2003
I am juggling camera and note taking so my notes are woefully
inadequate. I only took notes for a few of the novice men.
Novice Men Short Program
- Peter Lindstrom (Peninsula Skating Club)
- He landed a triple salchow/double toe combination. He did a double
jump out of footwork. His double axel was most impressive, he held the
edge after landing. He did a camel/sit/variation of a sit/change/camel
spin combination. He had good stretch and nice arm positions in his
flying sit spin. 2nd place
- Ryan Mason (Vaca Valley Figure Skating Club)
- He did a very nice ina baur into a spread eagle. His double jump out
of steps had a shaky landing, single axel I have no notes on his combo.
12 place
- Dice Murakami (All Year Figure Skating Club)
- I liked him a lot. He did a swing program with great energy. I
don't have any jumps notes for him but I know he skated clean. Third
place
- Frank Huber (Skating Academy of Plymouth)
- Skated to James Bond music and wore a bullseye on his clothes. The
double out of steps had very good height. He stepped out of the double
axel and put his hands down on the combo He had nice stretch in his
camel spin. 6th place
- Colin Specht (St. Moritz Ice Skating Club)
- Triple salcnow/double toe. Singled the axel. Pretty good serpentine
steps. Double out of steps was fine. Skated to How The West Was Won. 5th
place
- Austin Kanallaken (All Year Figure Skating Club)
- Very good straightline footwork. Fast sit spin into a blur scratch
spin. He did a western program and ended very dramatically with a duel.
I have no jump notes for him. 8th place
- Princeton Kwong ( Peninsula Skating Club)
- Double axel, triple/double combination and double out of steps were
all fine. He had good speed in his step sequence. First place
- Marko Perko (All Year Figure Skating Club)
- His combo was clean but I couldn't tell if it was a triple or a
double. Single axel and double out of steps was fine. Nice form exiting
jujmps, he had good stretch and flow. 7th place
Junior Lady's Short Program
Again the incompleteness of my notes is a reflection of my wearing two
hats and not a reflection of any particular skater.
- Katrina Borncamp (Stockton Figure Skating Club)
- Whenever I hear Stockton announced I expect the skater to skate to
the music from The Big Valley, so far no one ever has. But I keep
hoping. She did a double salchow, I think with a step out. Singled axel
and stepped out of double out of steps. 13th place
- Tosha Hanford (Capital City Figure Skating Club)
- She has a beautiful layback spin, lovely arms in a full circle and a
free leg position even Dick Button would like. She did a double axel,
but fell on a triple loop combination. Double out of steps was fine. She
did a very nice back spiral/3 turn/forward spiral combination and Ina
Baur. Now I am going to put on my Dick Button hat and say I really liked
this program because it had a very gentle quality to the music and
choreography. 5th place
- Rebecca Fong (St. Moritz Ice Skating Club)
- Did a swing program. The double out of steps and double axel were
fine but she fell on a triple salchow combination. 9th place
- Kelly Knight (Escondido Figure Skating Club)
- Very cute young lady, good presentation. She landed double axel and
double out of steps was fine. She two footed the combination jump. She
has good flow. 2nd place
- Kathleen Tran (La Jolla Figure Skating Club)
- She landed a double axel with great height. Double out of steps was
fine. Fast combination spin with good positions. Got no notes on her
combination jump. 3rd place
- Jessica Perino (Los Angeles Figure Skating Club)
- Fell on one jump, double out of steps was fine. She did a gorgeous
layback spin with arms in a closed circle position and slowly opening
up. Very effective. 10th place
- Danielle Schraner (Penisula Skating Club)
- She did a triple salchow/double toe combination, two footed the
salchow. Double axle and double out of steps was fine. She has a very
deep arch in her layback spin. She had a very big grin on her face after
she landed on her jumps, very charming. 4th place
- Tammy Sutan (Glacier Falls Figure Skating Club)
- Skated to Swan Lake, very nice program. She did a double/double
combination jump and double out of steps was fine. She has very pretty
layback spin. She had a great footwork sequence with two leaps in the
sequence. 7th place
- Tasha MaMoody (Peninsula Skating Club)
- Very beautiful layback spin. Did a loop/double toe combination, but
I couldn't tell if it were a triple or double loop. Double axel was two
footed, hands down in the double out of steps. 8th place
- Tashe Smith (Skating Club of San Francisco)
- Skated to Romeo and Juliet. Triple/double combination with a step
out on the triple, tried a triple out of footwork and fell. She has long
arms and legs which she extended very well to great effect. 11th place
- Brit Adams (Sweetwater Figure Skating Club)
- She had a shaky landing on he combination jump. Double axel was
fine. Fast spins in very nice positions. 12th place
- Angela Le (Peninsula Skating Club)
- Two footed the axel. Double/double combination jump also two footed.
She smiled a lot, which always makes you enjoy a program more. 15th
place
- Tylerann Farley (Peninsula Skating Club)
- Skated to Time To Say Goodbye. Fell on her combination, singled the
axel stepped out of the jump out of steps. She had very deep edges in
her spirals. 14th place
- Julian Burn (Capital City Figure Skating Club)
- Very, very pretty program to Clair De Lune. Nice connecting steps in
between the elements. She popped an triple loop then did the double toe.
Double of out steps was fine double axel was okay. She has great stretch
in her camel spin. She had a look on her face while skating that was
just pure joy. I really enjoyed watching her. 1st place
- Stephanie Yee (St. Moritz Ice Skating Club)
- Skated to Rodeo. Fell on the double axel Double/double combination
two footed. 16th place
- Elizabeth Frances Lim
- She has nice extension and presentation. Double out of steps was
fine, triple salchow/double toe and double axel also fine. She did a
split jump in her connecting moves very effectively to the music. Nice
program. 6th place
