2001 Central Pacific Regionals

ARGH, the traffic to Oakland was insane. So I missed half the
Intermediate ladies. My friend Dorie said that the first six girls all
skated perfect programs.
Due to distance and babies, we could not attend much, here are
the notes on what we have.
- Catherine Riley
- Wore a green dress and skated to Celtic music. She had
some nice connecting steps in her program. She did a double lutz/double
loop, single axel, and I didn't write down about her jump out of steps.
She had a nice free leg position in her layback spin, great presentation
with a big smile on her face. 5th place
- Heather Cristobal
- She wore a yellow dress with red trim. Very graceful
young lady with a balletic quality to her skating. Her single axel was
fine, as was her double lutz/double loop and double out of steps. She
opened the program with a very lovely Kerrigan spiral. She finished the
program after the music stopped. 3rd place
- Brittney Lusk
- She did a double loop, fell out of it and then added on
the double toe. Steps into a double jump was fine and so was an ina baur
into a single axel. Good diagonal footwork, the combination spin
traveled a bit. She skated to Carmen. 14th place
- Alycia Bowles
- She had good flow coming out of her axel, but she fell
on one of her other jumps. Sorry my notes are incomplete. 15th place
- Tiffany Seto
- Double lutz/double loop, I think she turned out of the
jump. Spiral into a single axel, nice, and her double out of steps was
fine. 9th place
- Midori Higashi
- She wore a harem-esque program, and I kid you not
skated to the I Dream of Jeannie theme song. She had great flow going
into and coming out of the axel. Combination was double lutz/double toe,
double loop out of steps was fine. She is a fast skater. 7th place
- Rebecca Fong
- She has graceful arm movements. Double lutz/double toe, I
think she did a double axel, but I am not sure if novice ladies are
allowed to do double axels in the short. She had nice flow in the
footwork into a double jump. 4th place
- Erin Reed
- She wore a beautiful lavender costume. Axel jump was fine;
she stepped out of a double loop and did a salchow/loop combination,
that might have been a triple sal but I am not sure. She skated to
"Somewhere My Love" and opened the program with a layback spin that had
very lovely arm movements. Ended the spin with a scratch spin with her
arms to her side for a very cool illusion effect. Another fast skater.
3rd place
- Christina Waterhouse
- Yet another very fast skater, these novice girls
are speed demons. She landed a double axel, double lutz/double toe, but
landed that lutz on her knee. Her spins started out very fast, but she
couldn't hold the speed and the spins slowed down very noticeably. She
stepped out of the jump out of steps. Skated to Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
6th place
- Caitlin Mallory
- She skated to Swan Lake and did a lot of very lovely
ballet movements, steps and arm movements. She has a lovely layback spin
with a deep arch in her back. She landed a double axel, double
lutz/double toe, and her jump out of steps was done with her hands over
her head. 2nd place
- Julian Burns
- Landed a double axel, and a double loop. Her combination
was triple salchow/double toe, she wobbled a bit on the landing of that
sal, but held it. She has a great smile. 1st place (duh she has a
triple)
- Brittany Ogle
- Landed a double lutz/double toe combination and a wobbly
double loop. I have no notes on her axel. She had a flirty presentation
with a little shoulder rolling. 9th place
- Nicole Westin
- Some double/double combination, I have no idea what. She
fell on her axel, double loop was fine. She did a catch foot layback
spin with good speed. 8th place
- Roujin Mozaffarimehr
- Skated to Istanbul. Double lutz/double toe
combination; fell on the double axel, double loop was fine. She had a
nice camel spin, difficult position with her knee bent. 11th place
- Jessica Sedlack
- She wore a beautiful dress, white bodice with a blue
skirt, I want that dress. She popped the axel; her combination had a
triple salchow, but she fell out of the sal, sorry I didn't write down
the second part of the combination. Good extension in her Y spin. 5th
place
- Caitlin Haltiner
- She landed a double/double combination and single
axel and I am sorry that is all the notes I have for her. 10th place
- Michael Berg
- Beginning Pose was a military salute. Landed double axel,
an undetermined triple jump, which he two footed. Also landed a double
lutz/double toe. He did a spiral into a spread eagle. Fell on some jump
and landeded another double jump. He did a knee slide during his
footwork sequence. Ended with a flying sit spin, ended saluting. 8th
place
- William Wong
- Landed a single axel, double loop, popped a lutz, fell
out of another double jump. He did circular footwork with two split
jumps in it. 9th place
- Peter Lindstrom
- He started out his program with his hand over his
heart. Skated to Enter The Heroes. I wonder if these saluting programs
were set up before or after September 11. Landed a double jump; a double
lutz/double toe; did a spiral into a triple salchow, but two footed the
salchow; landed another double/double combination. He did a spiral then
reached over and touched the ice and did another spiral. Landed another
double jump; did a flying sit spin; double loop; then did a split jump
into another double jump. He landed one other double jump and a double
lutz. He did a sit spin with his hands straight down by his side, cool
effect. Ended the program with a scratch spin and then ending pose with
his hand over his heart again. 6th place
- Bilal Kheir
- Skated to Moonlight Sonata. Landed a double axel; then
fell on a triple jump. He landed another double jump and did a salchow
but I can't tell if it was a double or triple. He had very big jumps
with lots of height. Landed a double lutz; single axel; double loop and
another double jump. 5th place
- Miguel Shahpouri
- Started with a lutz and took a bad fall, hit the
wall, poor guy. Singled an axel. Did a spread eagle into a double
salchow. Landed a double loop; then popped something; two footed a
double jump and then another single axel. 10th place
- Patrick Rodgers
- Skated to the Four Seasons. Landed a double axel and a
triple salchow. He has a nice camel spin. Landed a double loop; popped a
lutz; and then landed a double axel/pop combination. 3rd place
- Alvin Visperas
- Landed a double lutz/double toe; a single axel; a
double salchow; and two other double jump. He did a flying sit spin that
had good height. 7th place
- Christopher Kinser
- Les Miserables Landed a double/double combination;
fell out of a double axel; landed a double salchow; ina baur into a
lutz; double loop; double lutz; and single axel. He was expressive and
had nice footwork. Big smile on his face at the end. 4th place
- Michael Dimalanta
- Whoa, this kid is fast. He started out with I think
a triple/triple combination, might have been triple/double; Landed a
triple loop; a double jump; triple salchow; double axel into another
double axel; single axel. He did a spread eagle into an ina baur. Had a
lot of dramatic flourishes to the music with his arms. Ended with a
scratch spin and he looked visibly tired at the end of his program. 1st
place
- Geoffrey Varner
- Landed a double axel; did a nice series of three turns
into a double jump. He had good flow and I loved this kids edges. (I am
sorry Geoffrey I couldn't help myself, but having me love your edges
means the skategods will kill you.) He landed a triple jump; a double of
some sort; landed a double axel/double toe; another double jump; a
double/double combination; and a double loop. Had a slight stumble in
some connecting steps.
